What Have You Done For Me Lately?

OnMessage was designed from the ground up to address the common problems organisations encountered when incorporating e-mail notification into their ClearQuest-based change management implementation.

This page is intended for ClearQuest administrators or power users who have come across such problems and are looking to see what solutions are available.

How OnMessage Solves Common ClearQuest Problems

Area Problem OnMessage Solution
Content Default e-mails either too terse or too verbose. Well structured, content-rich e-mails that allow ClearQuest data to be viewed or updated from within the e-mail.
Plain text e-mails are limited in the content that they can present.
Default e-mails are not aesthetically pleasing OnMessage e-mails are rendered in HTML with distinct balance between usefulness, aesthetics and functionality.
Delivery E-mail notification not enabled by default, or can be disabled by the user. Server-side e-mail delivery guarantees mail is always delivered in a timely and efficient manner, without impacting the performance of ClearQuest actions.
No SMTP/MAPI server available — no e-mail.
Performance hit often encountered with complex rules.
Recipients Target audience is too small or large. E-mail recipients can be defined programatically from within the e-mail template, allowing for different recipients based on the content of the ClearQuest record.

As a ClearQuest administrator, it is possible to try and address these problems yourself with an ad-hoc solution, whether it be via custom e-mail notifications in ClearQuest hooks or by using an external sender.

However, trying to come up with a solution yourself takes time and effort that is better spent elsewhere. The advantage of OnMessage is that we've done all the hard work for you, allowing you to get on with the job of customising the e-mails templates for your organisation's specific business processes.
